The Kalasatama residential towers provide their inhabitants with cozy living by promising them an extra hour in saved time per day.
Cozify took part in designing and providing smart living solutions to Loisto and Majakka apartments to fulfill their desire for the ease and convenience of smart living.
A developer and pioneer in the construction field, SRV, has built two new modern residential towers at Kalasatama, and Cozify had the privilege of working alongside them during the construction process. Majakka residents moved in in 2019 and the inhabitants of Loisto will be settling in during the fall of 2021. This was a significant construction project that focused heavily on adding a variety of services that improve wellbeing and make life easier. Through these services the goal is to save each resident one hour per day which can be used to focus on their own interests.

"After a long workday we don’t necessarily want to use our spare time for cleaning or renovation. That’s why in the Kalasatama residential towers it’s possible to book e.g. home cleaning, Handyman and dog walking -services", says Lotta Toivonen, Project Manager for Service Development at SRV.
As a service developer, Toivonen knows a lot about the wishes of Finnish habitants, but studies have also been done to back this up. For example, in the 2019 survey conducted by SRV it was evident that cleaning and traveling from one place to another are the biggest issues when it comes to everyday inconveniences.
These survey results and several other resident questionnaires have been beneficial when designing the new residential towers. In addition to home cleaning services, the residents can use a gym, roof top terrace and a party function room. The services have been brought close by and the central location has been thoroughly thought out.
Savings in time and added convenience of living are at the core of smart living, according to Toivonen.
"Smart features can bring increased levels of ease and security to habitation. We are looking for solutions that improve the well-being of the resident as well as their environment. Smart solutions are important among the methods used to achieve this", tells Toivonen.
Each Majakka and Loisto apartment comes with a pre-installed Cozify ZEN smart hub. Cozify ZEN is a combined smart home and building automation hub that makes it possible to get a thoroughly tailored smart entity for entire buildings. Residents benefit from it in various ways. They can monitor their own consumption of hot and cold water, generic consumption of electricity, and also the temperature and humidity levels of their home.
Various smart guards increase security and make life more worry-free. For example, the water leak guard can save the resident from extensive water damage.

"Alongside the residents, the housing companies are also able to monitor the consumption data from the centralized housing company portal", reminded the Cozify CEO Kimmo Ruotoistenmäki.

The Kalasatama residential towers’ services were designed mostly as a joint effort. Cozify also participated in workshops organized by SRV, in order to figure out how to maximize the well-being of the residents through smart features.
As a result of the workshops two tailored smart living kits were produced, that allow the Majakka and Loisto residents to increase the level of their home’s smart features. One of the kits is focused on smart lighting that adapts to the time of the day and to different scenarios. This is called human central lighting (HCL).
"Cozify’s technical capability and the hub, that enables all the smart services, have been important for this project. It was also useful to make the smart kits available via Cozify’s web shop", Toivonen says in thanks.
According to the SRV conducted user survey, 35–44-year-olds generally suffer from too little good quality nighttime sleep – as an answer to this call we wanted to provide the residents with the possibility to install smart lighting in their home.
"The color temperature of light has been found to directly influence well-being, for example it’s good to avoid "blue lighting" (cold temperature screen lights) during the evenings in order to improve the quality of sleep", says Ruotoistenmäki.
The other kit focuses on smart blinds. In addition to lighting, the blinds within the home can also be automated – residents can set the blinds to open and close automatically according different scenarios.
Toivonen sees the smart solutions as a strong trend in the future of habitation. Finns increasingly want their living to be convenient and worry-free. Also, being ecological is another strong direction in the field.
"We have to consider how smart solutions can help us reduce our ecological footprint. The upcoming generations are especially concerned with energy savings and being ecological", says Toivonen.
